Why We Revolt - Conversation with Author Victor Montori and Ryan Armbruster

Last month, we were lucky to host author Victor Montori in conversation with fellow Mayo doctor, Ryan Armbuster Victor Montori is a professor of medicine, a highly cited researcher and a diabetes doctor at Mayo Clinic. In 2016 Montori founded The Patient Revolution, a nonprofit organization, to translate into action the ideas proposed in the book. Ryan Armbruster is Senior Fellow and Director of Health Administration Executive Studies at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. A devoted advocate for making health care better for people, Ryan is passionate about leading change in today's health care system to refocus on what matters most – great patient care.

Told through a series of essays and short stories, Dr. Victor M. Montori’s Why We Revolt uncovers how, over the past few decades, the American healthcare system has become increasingly exploited and industrialized. The costs of health insurance and standard medical procedures continue to soar, physicians are pressured to push through cases without regard for patient satisfaction, and the system pursues standardization, which causes individualized healthcare to become generic and impersonal. Still, the United States falls behind other countries on patient outcomes, and physicians continue to be overloaded with tedious administrative work as the emphasis is placed on profits instead of patient care.

It is rare to witness such a revolutionary, caring conversation on change — especially in a field where professionals open up so rarely about it. We wanted to share and preserve this conversation here.

You can purchase Victor’s book through our online store or in person at Eat My Words.
